DaWoodWorks

Transforming a craftsmanship-driven business into a clear, high-conversion digital experience
Role: Product Designer
Duration: ~6–8 weeks
Platform: Website (Responsive)
Scope: UX Strategy, UI Design, Conversion Optimization

Problem
Dawood Works is a custom woodwork and interior design business offering services like:
- Custom kitchens
- Closets and built-ins
- Residential and commercial interior solutions
However, the digital experience did not reflect the quality, process, or value of the service.
Key issues:
- Services were presented without clear structure
- No strong storytelling of craftsmanship or process
- Lack of guidance for users unfamiliar with custom work
- Weak conversion flow (consultation not clearly driven)
Custom services require trust and clarity, not just visuals.
Businesses like Dawood rely heavily on communicating craftsmanship, personalization, and process to convert clients effectively.
Goal
Design a website experience that:
- Clearly communicates value and expertise
- Guides users from inspiration → understanding → contact
- Builds trust through process transparency
- Increases consultation inquiries (primary conversion)
My Role
I led the end-to-end redesign, including:
- UX strategy and structure
- Information architecture
- Interaction and visual design
- Conversion-focused layout decisions
Key Insights
From analysing the business and similar services:
- Users don’t fully understand what “custom” means
- Trust is built through process visibility and craftsmanship
- Visual inspiration is critical, but not sufficient alone
- Decision-making requires clear next steps (consultation)
“I like the work, but I don’t know how to start.”
Product Strategy
I reframed the website around 3 core principles:
1. Show the value, not just the output
Explain craftsmanship, materials, and customization
2. Guide the user journey
From inspiration → understanding → action
3. Design for conversion
Make consultation the natural next step
Solution
1. Structured Service Experience
- Clear categorisation (Kitchens, Closets, Interiors, etc.)
- Each service explained with purpose and benefits
Helps users quickly understand offerings
Custom woodwork services typically rely on tailored solutions that blend aesthetics and functionality, making clarity essential in presentation.
2. Process-Driven Storytelling
- Introduced a clear step-by-step process:
- Consultation
- Concept & Design
- Build & Installation
Reduces uncertainty and builds trust
This aligns with how real companies communicate their workflow—from idea to installation—to set expectations and build confidence.
3. Portfolio as Decision Tool (Not Gallery)
- Showcased real projects with context
- Focused on use cases (kitchen, office, etc.)
Moves from inspiration → decision support
4. Conversion-Focused UX
- Clear CTAs: Get a Quote / Book Consultation
- Reduced friction in contact flow
- Strategic placement of actions across the journey
Encourages action at the right moment
5. Trust & Credibility Layer
- Emphasis on craftsmanship and materials
- Customer testimonials
- Professional tone and visual consistency
Essential for high-value service decisions
UI & Design System
The interface was designed to reflect:
- Craftsmanship and quality
- Simplicity and clarity
- Premium but approachable feel
Design decisions:
- Neutral, material-inspired color palette
- Strong typography for hierarchy
- Image-led layouts to highlight work
- Modular sections for scalability
Validation & Iteration
Through usability testing:
- Users better understood services and process
- Reduced hesitation before contacting
- Improved clarity in navigation and structure
Outcome
The redesigned experience delivered:
- A clearer value proposition and service offering
- Improved user understanding of custom work
- Stronger trust through transparency
- A more effective conversion-driven journey
What I Learned
- Service-based businesses require education, not just design
- Trust is built through process, not aesthetics alone
- Good UX bridges the gap between expert knowledge and user understanding
Next Steps
If taken further, I would:
- Track conversion rates (consultation requests)
- Test different CTA placements and messaging
- Add pricing guidance or estimation tools
- Expand case studies with real client stories
